About This Business Leader Reflection Tool

'When we're looking to improve our B2B business, I think a good place to start is to consider and, where necessary, take action in these six areas:

-- Firstly, the clarity and appropriateness of our offer in the context of the markets we serve and the resources, both operational and financial, available to us. We don't want to be stretched too thin or applying our efforts in areas that don't suit us or our configuration well.

-- Secondly, the quality of our customer base, paying particular attention to their ability and willingness to pay for what it is we have to offer. The better the quality of our customer base the stronger our business.

-- Thirdly, the environment we have designed, consciously or otherwise, for our people. A good question to ask and to listen carefully and take positive steps in response to is "are we as a team, are we as an individual, easy to work with and easy to work for?"

-- Fourthly, the business and people acumen of each member of our management team. The more adept our leaders are in these areas the likelier they'll set a positive, collaborative and commercial tone for their respective teams and make good decisions.

-- Fifthly, the confidence, consciousness and capability of our sales professionals to engage on a business level with business leaders and other budget holders. The more of an asset our people are to our customers the likelier we succeed.

-- Sixthly, the confidence, consciousness and capability of our non-sales customer facing professionals in building strong productive relationships both externally and internally. The closer we collaborate the stronger our bonds.'

Rob's content, insights and methodologies encapsulate the lessons of over three decades of international business experience and related research, observation and reflection.

In a rich and varied international business career Rob has been:

  • Operationally engaged with over 150 businesses around the world
  • Closely involved in over 50 actual or potential acquisition transactions
  • A part of a senior management team that grew a South African domestic business into a dual listed technology group employing over 8,500 people and operating in over 80 countries
  • Nominated for the South Africa CFO Of The Year Award when serving as Chief Financial Officer of a $6.5 Bn turnover group

'When I needed career advice at a major career junction, I turned to Rob for help and he quickly jumped on a call with me despite the time zone difference.

I left that call with clarity and focus.

I left that call feeling empowered, supported and super-sensible!

I left that call knowing that I just needed to make my plan and execute it.

This is how Rob helped me get to this point:

-- Firstly, Rob effortlessly sets you at ease. Simply put, he's genuinely a nice guy, and you're going to feel that humility, energy, and warmth permeating every part of the consulting call with this corporate heavyweight as he makes an authentic and kind human connection with you.

-- Secondly, he's going to ask you relevant straightforward questions about the situation that will help him draw a picture of what's happening in your career or organization, and help you be clear on what's happening in your head.

-- Thirdly, expect valuable insights as your mind opens up to opportunities where you had only seen obstacles before, and finally expect him to point you to practical, actionable next steps to move you forward.

It's all substance and no fluff drawn from his extensive and multifaceted career in the corporate world.

What amazes me about Rob is:

-- the ease with which he analyses the situation

-- the accessibility and creativity of the ideas he shares

-- the practical nature of the solutions he puts on the table

This consultancy call was time well spent. As we say in Jamaica "Big up yuhself- Rob!!!" (*** To "big up" someone is to praise or recommend somebody strongly.***)

Why Outperformance Highway Programmes Are Different

Outperformance Highway courses are a unique experience and very different from traditional 'training'.

They have been thoughtfully crafted to combine teaching, lessons of experience, ideas sharing, structured reflection and thought provocation delivered in a unique and enjoyable way.

All programmes blend three elements:

> The teaching and sharing of individual and business performance focused ideas, frameworks and methods that are designed to be operationally applicable.

> A journey of guided reflection and thought provocation to help leaders and individual contributors to gather and organise their thoughts and identify tangible steps.

> A user friendly and energising approach to delivering easy to consume insight in a stimulating format that includes pre-recorded videos and an opportunity for direct interaction with Rob at invite only online forums.

Individual And Business Performance Focused Ideas, Frameworks And Methods

All programmes have a strong emphasis on sharing straightforward memorable frameworks and methods that help develop business acumen, emotional intelligence and an ability to engage effectively with business leaders. Business disciplines apply even in not for profits. Business leader relationships help us win new business and progress our careers. Business disciplines and effective people skills at all levels help us deliver strong business performance. The simpler and more memorable the framework, the likelier it is to be implemented.

'Fantastic Practical Learning Experience. This course is holistic, it took me on a journey, which looked at finance / sales / customers / organisational construct etc. It took me three to four hours and I was able to easily learn new ideas / approaches / tools.

- Mevin Anenden, Senior Client Manager

‘Rob, great summary on the ingredients of performance teams’

- Dirk Maiwald, Manager Corporate Technologies

'Rob has packaged his experience and research into a well thought out framework'

- Lynn Murphy, Chief Executive Officer

'PPMC (People, Principles, Mechanics and Culture) leadership is a brilliant framework and something I’ll be using.'

- Mark Graham, CIO

'I found this course both useful and interesting. I now have a clearer understanding of the big picture and will be looking to focus on the most critical areas that will make the most significant difference to the business. We need to adopt PPMC.'

- Chris Griffiths, Marketing Director

'I've learnt a great deal from it. Much of this course made me think about about past roles and more on the mistakes than successes (why do we do that?). I know I always wanted to look after people and lead well when in this type of role, but I was often so focused on the objectives, I know I made mistakes. It's experience I wish I'd have had access to back then.  If you have a passion for the team as well as the business direction, I strongly believe you will benefit from these courses.'

- Mark Graham, CIO

Guided Reflection And Thought Provocation

Content is delivered in a structured and thought provoking way created to provide leaders with a journey of guided self-reflection that helps them further organise their thoughts, enhance operational clarity and identify tangible steps for improved performance.

'CEO's rarely create the time and space for reflection, this is a very engaging and thought provoking way to help you along the journey.'

- Lynn Murphy, Chief Executive Officer

'I'm part way through the training course on business leadership with Rob Evans and loving it. The old brain synapses are firing off left, right and centre! Rob spends time upfront getting you to understand where you operate today, how does the business and the team operate? Is the business designed to win? Is our culture right for us and is it working? And several other relevant questions. The great thing about this approach is before he has taught me any new capability, he has taught me to really understand where my challenges are in leadership. It has my brain identifying linkages between aspects of business and leadership I hadn't thought of.  This is a far more effective way of learning in my view and I think learning at a leadership level really needs to be done this way, there is no 'out of the box' solution. It's experience gained as we progress and experience shared by successful leaders like Rob.'

- Mark Graham, CIO

'I have bought a selection of business books over the last few years. All of them sounded like they would help improve the business's bottom line and contained some clever ideas. The difference with this course is that it covers many of the issues I hoped these books would cover. All the critical issues we face in building a business are dealt with cleverly and interestingly. It attacks them from a different angle, focuses our thoughts and highlights practical ways to develop in our roles and for our business. This course has started the process that the books I bought never addressed, and for that reason, I feel this course is very beneficial.'

- Chris Griffiths, Marketing Director

'Plenty of food for thought, it gets you to think of how you are running the business'

- Ian Edwards, Business Manager

'You always make me think'

- Gahn Lane, Vice President Global Channel Partners

'I can hand on my heart say that this is the only self-reflection content / engagement I have encountered.'

- Mevin Anenden, Senior Client Manager

User Friendly Insight And Energy

All programmes have been crafted to create an enjoyable eclectic thought provoking journey through very practical material. They are not like 'traditional' training. Programmes are not more than 4 hours in duration, are mobile enabled and can easily be consumed in very small manageable chunks of as little as 15 minutes at a time. They comprise many short, sharp focused videos, filmed in multiple locations, each with one or multiple thought provocative questions. Each programme provides an opportunity to engage directly in an online forum with Rob to which participants are invited. Underpinning all this is a philosophy that the more enjoyable the experience, the likelier we see engagement and returns on training investment.

‘entertaining and easy to consume’

- Lynn Murphy, Chief Executive Officer

'I loved the touches of humour and the clear and exciting storytelling to help with some of the explanations for things we should be considering'

- Chris Griffiths, Marketing Director

'I worked in the same firm as Rob, I cannot stress how valuable I have found his insight and energy. #leadershipdevelopment #energy #motivation'

- Gahn Lane, Vice President Global Channel Partners

'Thoroughly enjoyed Rob's way of presenting....and the few cameo appearances of his dog!'

- Mark Graham, CIO

'Very much enjoyed learning from the authors many years of experience in business. The 1-2-1 engagement afterwards really put this off the chart. Thanks Rob!’

- Mevin Anenden, Senior Client Manager

FAQ

  • What can I expect from the programme?

You'll find our work guiding you to comprehensively examine your organisation, your specific operational context and your leadership through considered and candid reflection. We achieve this by sharing lessons of our experiences and reflections illustrated with personal stories, examples and other relevant commentaries. We help you relate this material to your situation through our use of carefully crafted questions. Our goals are to provoke thought, to help you analyse your situation, to help you find ways to enhance your commercial and operational contributions and to equip you with tools and methodologies you can apply day to day throughout your career.

  • How long will it take me to complete the programme?
